Health Careers

Do you enjoy helping others and making a difference? People respect health care professionals because they devote their lives toward serving others. Students in the Health Careers program learn the basic skills necessary to become a Clinical Medical Assistant. Beyond the world of medical assisting, this course will prepare you for entry into post-secondary education degree programs in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, speech therapy, physician’s assistant, pre-med, and many more! Imagine walking out of high school with a medical assistant certification and college credit to further your healthcare education!

9th Grade - Principles of Nutrition & Wellness, Child Development
10th Grade -  Health Careers Exploration
11th Grade - Health Careers I
12th Grade - Health Careers II

Program Highlights

• Students receive CPR and automated external defibrillator training.

• Students learn how to measure blood pressures, pulse, respirations, temperature, and pulse oximetry

• Students perform actual patient assessments

• Students learn medical terminology (a prerequisite for many healthcare professions)

• Students practice phlebotomy (blood draws)

• Students are members of SkillsUSA, a national student youth group/organization.

• Students have the opportunity to intern during their senior year in a healthcare-related profession by participating in the Global Internship Experience

Cost Free College Credit Opportunities

Career Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGS) allow students, who demonstrate proficiency in career tech courses in approved secondary programs, to receive college credit at any Ohio public university
