On January 1, 2019, Dr. Sturgill assumed the position of Chief of Staff, replacing Mr. Poggiali, who retired on December 31, 2018. Mr. Poggiali will mentor and serve as transition leader for both Dr. Cade and Dr. Sturgill for the fall semester and continue serving the district in the role of principal coach in 2019.
Prior to assuming his role with Sandusky City Schools, Dr. Sturgill served as the Assistant Superintendent for the Lorain City Schools in Lorain, Ohio. He was affiliated with the district for over 20 years and held a variety of administrative roles, including Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, principal at Admiral King High School, and as a teacher of Learning Disabilities. 

He received his doctoral degree from Argosy University in Saratoga, Florida and a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Ashland University. He is a retired army veteran. He served as a First Lieutenant for the Ohio National Guard with over 20 years of service and was deployed to Afghanistan as a Company Commander in 2013.

The Sandusky City School District has procedures for the referral, evaluation, and placement process for students with disabilities as required by Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act.
