Under Title I, local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to provide services for eligible private school students, as well as eligible public city school students. In particular, §1120 of Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires a participating LEA to provide eligible students attending public & private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers, and their families with Title I services or other benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public city school students, their teachers, and their families.
WHICH SCHOOLS CAN RECEIVE TITLE I FUNDING FOR & FROM SANDUSKY CITY SCHOOLS (SCS)?
To qualify for assistance under Title I, a student must reside within the attendance area of a participating public city school district located in a low-income area and be failing, or at risk of failing, to meet student academic achievement standards. ODE provides Title I to public & nonpublic schools with qualifying students (as measured through Direct Certification).
WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES DOES SCS TITLE I FUNDING PROVIDE?
The supplemental programming of each school varies by school based upon the student needs assessment of the individual school. During the consultation and program development process, SCS works with each school to identify the needs of teachers and students, what services can be offered, how services will be delivered, when services will be delivered, how results will be assessed and how decisions are made about the delivery of services.
