Sandusky High School and Sandusky Middle School will Transition to Virtual Learning

Due to a rise of COVID-19 Cases reported for Sandusky High School, district officials, in collaboration with Mr. Pete Schade, Erie County Health Commissioner, have made the decision to transition Sandusky Middle School and Sandusky High School (grades 7-12) to virtual learning starting on Monday, August 30th, 2021 through Friday, September 3rd, 2021. A return to school is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th, 2021, but will be updated by Labor Day.  Students will attend classes from home via Google Classrooms for live instruction during this period. District faculty/staff will be receiving direct instructions from their supervisor for this timeframe. This transition is an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 cases within the high school and middle school buildings. The district’s goal is to make COVID-based decisions on a building-by-building format and conduct school as regularly as possible in as many cases as possible. Our goal is to be in school.

Monday, August 30th, 2021 will serve as a transition day for students in grades 7 through 12. Online instruction will begin for students via Google Classrooms on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021. Attendance will be taken during live instruction, and classwork will be completed through the Google Classroom interface. The high school and middle school building will be open from 8:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday, August 30th to allow students the opportunity to pick up any materials or technology they may need. District staff will be available in the SHS Cafeteria during this timeframe to help students and distribute laptops to any students who may not yet have one.

Virtual learning for Sandusky High School students will follow the “Blue” Schedule with first period beginning at 8:28 am (no need to attend virtual homeroom). The SHS Blue Schedule can be found at www.scs-k12.net/sanduskyhighschool_home.aspx. Sandusky Middle School virtual learning schedules will be distributed in the SHS cafeteria on Monday, August 30th from 8:00 am – 11:00 am.  Mr. Kozak will be making daily student announcements on the SMS YouTube Channel which can also be seen on the SMS school website at https://sites.google.com/scsbluestreaks.net/smshub/home.

SMS and SHS students will have the option to pick up lunch and next day breakfast from Sandusky Early Learning Academy, Sandusky Primary School, Sandusky Intermediate School, Regional Center for Arts and Academic Studies, and from the parking lot of SHS. Hours of distribution will be 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Monday through Friday. This will include Friday, September 3rd (district PD day) but not Labor Day – September 6th. At this time, all extra-curricular activities will continue as scheduled. Coaches and advisors will resume safety protocols that were in place last year.

Additionally, The Erie County Health Department will be on-site Monday, August 30th to offer free COVID Rapid Testing to any staff or student with an interest. This will occur in the SHS Auditorium from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Students under 18 years old will need parent permission.
