SHS COLLEGE NIGHT - FEBRUARY 29
The SHS Counseling Department will host the annual college information night for Juniors on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. These topics will be covered: choosing the right college, ACT and SAT college testing details, college planning timelines, application and acceptance procedures, early decision/early action policies, scholarship opportunities and financial aid information. The event will take place at SHS in the auditorium at 6:00 p.m. All Juniors and parents/guardians of juniors are encouraged to attend.  [...click for more]
100 BOOKS DONATED TO VENICE

One hundred books were donated to Venice Heights Elementary classrooms in memory of Ellen Purcell, mother of Glenda Lindquist. Donors purchased books relating to a farm animal theme that will be used for the 100 Book Club. What a generous and lasting tribute!

INAUGURAL SHS ALUMNI BLOOD DRIVE

On Thursday, February 9, Sandusky High will hold the Inaugural Alumni Blood Drive.  The purpose is to bring SHS alumni back to their alma mater to make a difference in the lives of people. Our goal in this drive is not only to gather as many pints of blood as possible but also to make former SHS graduates feel more involved in “their school.”

SURVEY - SANDUSKY SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Your help is needed! The City of Sandusky in cooperation with the Sandusky Local School District have submitted an application to the Ohio Department of Transportation for Safe Routes to School (SRTS) funding to assist with the development of a Sandusky School Travel Plan (STP).

SCIENCE DAY A SUCCESS AT ADAMS

Each year the Sandusky Academic Booster Club sponsors “Science Day” at Adams Junior High. On January 20th, Mr. Dick Gallagher and a host of board members and community volunteers, manned science stations designed to give students hands-on experience with science. This year’s Science Day proved to be just as engaging as ever. Sandusky City Schools would like to thank all of those who participated in this exciting event.

6TH GRADERS MENTOR 2ND GRADE "BOOK BUDDIES"
 “Book Buddies” a partnership between Mrs. Stephens’ 2ndgraders and Mrs. Scott’s 6thgraders at Hancock Elementary, promotes positive interactions and builds leadership skills. Older students have an opportunity to practice their leadership skills, which will serve them well as they move into the upper grades. The support the second graders receive is invaluable.  [...click for more]

VERBAL JUDO TRAINING FOR TRANSPORTATION DEPT.
Sgt. Ron Snyder of the Sandusky Police Department conducted “Verbal Judo” training for Sandusky's bus drivers and aides on Thursday, January 12, 2012. This tactical communications program is designed for defusing conflict and redirecting behaviors with words. Originally designed in 1983 by Dr. Ron Thompson for police and security professionals, the practice is now commonly used in schools and businesses.   [...click for more]
WILSON READING SYSTEM UNVEILED
A new intervention for struggling readers will be introduced at Sandusky elementary schools this month, “Wilson Reading System”.  Originally, the program was developed to help students of all ages who were diagnosed with dyslexia. As the program was tested it was found to be impressively beneficial to other struggling readers as well. Students and adults who have difficulty decoding words, spelling, or reading fluently can benefit from the Wilson program.  [...click for more]
GET HOPPING - JUMP ROPE FOR HEART IS HERE!
It is time for the annual "Jump Rope for Heart" event at Mills, Ontario and Osborne Elementary Schools.  February 13-17 students will be learning about heart health while participating in exciting jump rope competitions and collecting donations for the American Heart Association.   [...click for more]
